Panasonic DMR Hard drive DVD

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:31 pm

The Panasonic DMR Hard drive DVD is a disc recorder that allows you to record over 4 hours onto a DVD in the LP mode, without compromising quality. It gives you the same 500 lines of resolution as the SP mode, which saves space and makes it an economical disc recorder. The menus make navigation clear and easy and the unit is slim-line and lightweight.

The remote is laid out to be uncomplicated and many people are able to start recording within 15 minutes of taking it out of the box. The Panasonic DMR Hard drive DVD is excellent for recording onto discs, onto the hard drive, playing music CDs or just looking at photos. The picture quality of the recordings is amazingly clear with the upgrade of normal DVDs to 1080 pixels.

There have been some complaints about the remote control of the Panasonic DMR Hard drive DVD, such as no eject button or mute button. You also have to be sure you are pointing the infrared remote directly at the unit, or it won’t respond.

The only other complaints center around the fact that you will need to buy a HDMI lead separately, but that is true on many units. Some find the manual a little confusing. Others don’t like the fact that there is no twin tuner, where you can watch a different channel while recording.

Overall, everybody seems to agree that the quality of the Panasonic DMR Hard drive DVD is an excellent value, when it comes to the picture quality of actual recording and playback of recordings, which is what it is meant for. The hard drive is quiet and not distracting like some of them on the market.

The Panasonic DMR Hard drive DVD comes in several models, EX768, EX78 and EX88. The EX78 and EX88 come with larger hard drives, USB sockets, Jukebox facilities for more advanced music storage and the EX88 comes with an SD slot for digital photos.

Recording from HDD to DVD is easy on the Panasonic DMR Hard drive DVD, with no loss of quality. Panasonic is one of the few on the market that are able to record and play DVD-RAM. Most people agree that the product is brilliant with really good picture and excellent sound quality.

The unit offers a “fast copy” that is able to copy a two hour film from HDD to DVD in 15 minutes. Some had a hard time figuring this feature out, but once you have, it saves time over the traditional way that would be a minute by minute transfer of 2 hours.

The best reviews come from users that also have Panasonic Televisions, and when there seems to be complaints of quality, it is due to the fact that the Panasonic DMR Hard drive DVD is ready for the digital switchover, so is not giving as good of quality to those that don’t currently have that signal, which is not the fault of the unit. The ones that love it are using it with the right signal, right television and understand the manual and remote. The fairest review of the Panasonic DMR Hard drive DVD is that if you understand and use it properly, you will love it.

Samsonite luggage

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:31 pm

The Samsonite Corp., which produces Samsonite luggage, began in Colorado in March of 1910 as the Shwayder Trunk Manufacturing Company. Owner and operator Jesse Shwayder began the company with $3500 of his own money.

The first year of business took most of his $3500 in seed money. He borrowed money to keep going, and soon the company began to be profitable. His brother Maurice joined the company in 1912, and both brothers traveled through the region to help boost sales and keep the business afloat. A few years later, brother Sol also joined the company, with brothers Ben and Mark coming on board in 1923.

Soon, specialization ensued, with Mark working on sales, Ben and Maurice focusing on the manufacturing process, and Sol functioning as company attorney. In 1912, the Company incorporated and moved to larger offices that same year. In 1917, they sold $76,000 worth of luggage every year throughout the Western United States. Mail order soon began to allow people throughout the country to order this high quality, sturdy luggage.

A brand that means “quality and durability”

The Shwayder Brothers first call their product “Samson” after the biblical character of the same name. The suitcases indeed were very durable and could take a lot of knocking about. In 1916, the brothers took a picture that would become the face of the product; the four brothers and their father stood on a plank that was positioned on top of one of the suitcases, a total weight of more than 1000 pounds. The caption read, “Strong enough to stand on.” This memorable picture was instrumental with direct mail advertising and promotion for the next several years.

The Shwayder brothers produced their first nationally advertised suitcase in 1918. It was advertised in the window of Macy’s department store with a half a ton of sugar resting on top.

By 1924, Shwayder Trunk revenues were more than $300,000 a year. Their manufacturing facilities eventually expanded to include more than 500,000 square feet of space. By the late 1920s, revenues were more than $1 million a year.

The 1929 stock market crash caused Shwayder Trunk’s sales to decrease by more than 50%, but ingeniously, the brothers managed to ride out the storm by manufacturing other products. The Shwayder Trunk Company therefore became known as Shwayder Brothers, Inc. to reflect the diversification.

By the 1930s, luggage sales had rebounded and the Shwayders continued to improve on existing lens designs and also to invent new products. Samsung luggage featured very strong handles, with rayon linings, wood frame construction, secure locks, and fiber finishes. In fact, Shwayder Trunk had developed its own covering for Samson suitcases that would withstand rough handling and be tough enough to deserve the name.

In 1939, the Samsonite suitcase was born when Jesse gave their latest unique design that name. Its tapered shape, leather binding and vulcanized fiber covering became the standard for the industry.

In the 1940s and again during the 1950s after the Korean War, the Shwayder brothers briefly converted their factories to produce for materials and then resumed selling luggage after, selling more than $7 million worth of products in their first postwar year of 1946. They were also able to take all the manufacturing knowledge they had learned during the war years and apply it to production methods for their own products, so that they not only had precise and therefore less expensive manufacturing methods, but also knew of synthetic materials that could be used for their own products. Their first “ultralight” luggage was produced in 1956, which used magnesium and injection molded plastic instead of wood frame construction. By the 1960s, they were also producing products like upscale folding furniture and had introduced the popular toy Legos.

By the 1960s, Jesse Shwayder’s son, King, was guiding the company and continued to make it a name to be known in molded luggage and attaché cases. It also expanded worldwide into countries like Belgium, France, Germany, Belgium, Mexico, and the Netherlands.

In the 1970s, the Shwayder family relinquished control and ownership of the company, selling to Beatrice Foods in 1973. It had mixed success with that company and eventually filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the early 1990s. However, it quickly rebounded and posted sales of nearly $500 million worldwide.

After its initial absorption, it regained its independence in 1995 when it was again reorganized as a publicly held independent Denver-based Corporation, the Samsonite Corporation.

Today, brands sold from the Samsonite Corporation include Samsonite, American Tourister, Lark, Lacoste small leather goods and bags, and Timberland bags. In July 2007, finance investor CVC Capital Partners acquired Samsonite for $1.7 billion.

Speakers, woofers, sub woofers, tweeters

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:30 pm

If you’re a music enthusiast, be aware that your stereo system can make all the difference. Let’s take a look at the four different components of your stereo system, why they’re important, and what you should look for when you’re buying.

Speakers

The first thing you should look for when you’re buying a speaker is the frequency response. Higher and wider is best, so that you can be sure to hear all the nuances of music, from highest to lowest. This means that the sound is going to be reproduced to the highest quality possible (although of course the original recording is going to affect this). Of course, your budget is also going to have an effect on what you can buy, but buy the highest and widest frequency response possible for the money.

How efficient or sensitive the speakers are will affect how good the sound is and how wide-ranging the sound is.

Woofers and tweeters

Woofers generate lower frequencies while tweeters generate high-pitched frequencies. Common speaker setups include one woofer at the back and two tweeters, for a three-way speaker. Some stereos opt for full range in one speaker; these speakers mount a tweeter inside the woofer Cohen, for what is known as a “two-way” or coaxial speaker. Some of these types of speakers may add super tweeters or mid ranges to fully reproduce these two areas in the musical range.

Sub woofers

Sub woofers capture only the bass frequency; in better quality stereo setups, though, you can buy this as one of the components so that not only can you fully access the frequency itself but you can also amplify it.

Should you buy components or should you buy an “all-in-one” full range speaker system?

Without a doubt, the best value for your money and quality will be the component setup. This is because these elements are made of better materials than their “all-in-one” counterparts, and in addition they are designed specifically to work together to provide the best quality sound for you. Even mid range priced component systems can produce better quality sound than top range all-in-one systems. In some cases, of course, the space available for such a system is also a consideration, in which case a top-quality all-in-one system will be better for you than a component system.

A note about component systems

Most component systems contain two woofers, two tweeters, and two external crossovers (systems that direct specific frequency ranges to the right speaker components) designed to work together so that you get the best possible sound. In addition, component stereo systems are usually made of better materials than those that are combined into two- or three-way design. Therefore, it’s generally better if you can to buy components separately; the two or three way composite systems can certainly do the job, but for the money you’re better off buying separate components.

If you must look full range speakers, or if you prefer to have a simpler setup, Kappa Infinity is one good brand to try. For component systems, both Yamaha and Sony make very good systems for about $200-$300 starting price.

Review of the Dell Studio 17 Laptop

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:29 pm

Dell Studio 17 Laptop Delivers Some Serious Bang For Your Computer Buck. If you are in the market for a Dell that will deliver some bang for your computer buck, then the Dell Studio 17 Laptop is the one to consider. This is a true shining star that has been added to the impressive Dell lineup. This laptop has a sharper look than earlier Dell models and has some customizable options that are much appreciated.  With the great 17-inch screen, this is a computer that will happily handle the double duty of performing as a mobile laptop as well as functioning as a sturdy desktop PC, when called for.

Sure, the larger size makes this a little less mobile for some people but that is a small trade off when you consider the solid and reliable construction and design in the Dell Studio 17 laptop. The silhouette has that wedge look that is very reminiscent of the XPS notebooks. Dell has also seen fit to include some of the other typical XPS features, including a drop hinge, pressure sensitive media controls, and an optical drive component that is slot loading.
Examining the Exterior; To please the taste palates of all consumers the Dell Studio 17 laptop has 6 additional color preferences besides Basic Black. Users can select from Plum, Tangerine, Pink, Midnight Blue, Red, and a cool Green. For anyone who wants a special custom finish there is one additional option. This is a color known as “Graphite Grey” that reminds most people of Gunmetal. This color choice also includes a special trim for the back and sides of the display screen. This trim option is available in black, pink, and red or blue. A small detail is fashioned in the palm rest, which adds a little character. This is a cool logo that is similar to a “topographical style map”.

The overall chassis design of the Dell Studio 17 is really well constructed. There is no flexing or creaks when you hold and juggle it a bit between your hands. While no one wants to drop a machine like this, it is solid and sturdy enough that it should weather a drop or a fall without a great deal of problems.

A New Access Design; The access panel for the Studio 17 is located on the bottom. There is only one panel present and it reveals accessibility to any workings of this big notebook all at the same time. This certainly will be something that appeals to anyone who wants to upgrade or modify several things at the same time. For others who are used to the multiple covers and panels that hold the RAM or hard drive, this wide-open view can be a little daunting at first glance.
Display Screen Facts ; The glossy display screen on the Dell Studio 17 is available as any of the following: WXGA +, WUXGA, or a WXGA + LED (and these can be paired with another option, the Blu-Ray drive). Any of the screens are superior when viewed straight and level, but there are still some color distortions at the lower edges of the display when the screen is pushed backwards. Users will notice that the best performance still occurs at lower resolutions.

Dock your Dell; The “Dell Dock” application is a standard feature now included with all Studio notebooks. This is a great innovation that provides a visual interface that is much like the one used with the Apple Mac OS X. What the Dell Dock gives users is more available desk space and a more user-friendly way of dealing with Windows Vista.

Keying the Keyboard; There are only good things to note about the keyboard that is part of the Dell Studio 17. This is a substantial feature with a solid, firm feel and only the “K” key gives any hint of flexion when typing. You will most likely forget that this is not a regular keyboard when you are using it at home or on the road. The keys are fairly compact, but will not pose a problem for anyone except those with ultra-long nails. The addition of a very nice keyboard backlight makes typing in dark conditions a snap.

Internal Components and Features;
When you check the internal parts, you will note that these units have an Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 for processing that provides 2.5GHz. This should give great speed and performance for almost any tasks. With a 3 GB RAM and a 320 GB Toshiba HDD you should be set for business, but you can install an additional HDD if you need more performance power or additional storage space. There is also the inclusion of a dedicated graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 3650) that will let you play games and work with 3D graphics. The only other graphics card option is the integrated Intel X3100.

Locking Up the Dell Studio 17 Laptop; There is no dedicated docking connector, and this notebook does not have VGA cable screw posts, or a built in TV tuner, but it still packs a wallop when compared to the competition in the same price range. It would be nice to have a little more to offer on the gaming and graphics front but the components on board are very capable performers. Overall, the Dell Studio 17 Laptop is more than up to delivering the power that you want o
